Suspect charged, victim identified in Boone County homicide
One person was charged Monday in connection with a Boone County homicide investigation.
Boone County deputies were still searching for Garland B. Wisley, Jr., 60, on Tuesday. Wisley was charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in connection with Sunday’s fatal shooting of 38-year-old John Albers on Sarazen Drive in the Fairway Meadows subdivision east of Columbia.
ABC 17 News had crews at the scene in the 200 block of Sarazen Drive early Sunday morning. When deputies arrived at 7 a.m., they found Albers had been shot, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to a probable cause statement, Wisley got into an argument with Albers over a handgun. Albers repeatedly asked him to hand over the gun. Witnesses said Wisley refused and shot Albers in the head before pointing the gun at several witnesses.
Wisley then left the residence on foot.
Wisley’s bond was set at $1 million, cash only.
Anyone with information on Wisley’s whereabouts is urged to call 9-1-1 or CrimeStoppers at 573-875-TIPS. “Wisley also has an outstanding warrant in Boone County for Failure to Appear on charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance and Trespassing with a bond of $40,000,” Boone County officials said in a press release.
