Tow trucks still recovering cars from weekend storm

Mid-Missouri continues to feel the effects of the first snowstorm of 2019.

Tow truck companies stayed busy pulling vehicles that remained stuck in the snow Tuesday.

ATR Towing Manager Tyler Doyle said he has received many calls in Cooper County and Boonville.

“The snow was 17 inches deep and the cars can’t go through,” Doyle said. ” They were just sliding off the road.”

He said semi-trucks and even snow plows needed towing.

Some schools called off classes for the third day in a row Wednesday as snow still clung to some area roads. The situation might only get worse, as more snow and extreme cold are expected for the coming weekend.

ABC 17 STormtrack meteorologists have issued a Weather Alert Day because of the probability of wintry precipitation this weekend. Missouri Department of Transportation and Columbia Public Works crews are also preparing for a possible second winter storm in a little more than a week.

MoDOT is repairing equipment and pushing any leftover snow from this past weekend to make room for any more accumulation.

“We’re also making sure our MoDOT crews are well rested and they’re ready again to go 24 hours a day,” said MoDOT Central District spokesman Gene McCoy.

He said MoDOT has plenty of salt and sand on hand.

Columbia Public Works spokesman Barry Dalton said the city is transitioning from last weekend’s storm.

“As the forecast models get more defined we should have more information,” Dalton said in an email to ABC 17 News.
