Jefferson City school district makes minor bus route changes for Tuesday

School buses for Jefferson City will run their normal routes, except in Callaway County, where buses will use snow routes to pick up and drop off students.

Facilities Director Frank Underwood said the decision to cancel school Monday was influenced by the rural areas of the district that may not have had snow cleared as promptly as major highways.

“Our rural areas were pretty packed in,” Underwood said. “They weren’t able to get out the way that they needed to, so the decision was made to… give them a day to dig out.”

Although MoDOT’s traveler map indicates that most of their roads are clear, the condition of city and neighborhood routes can vary. The Fulton Public School District, which is in Callaway County, canceled class Tuesday.

Several other school districts in Mid-Missouri have also canceled or delay school Tuesday. For a full list of cancellations and delays, click here.

One JCPS parent is comfortable with using rural roads to get to school Tuesday.

Emily Roberts, who lives in Cole County on a gravel road, said transportation shouldn’t be an issue.

“I think Cole County road crews have done a really great job on getting everybody ready so we can get to school so we don’t have to worry about missing any more days,” Roberts said.
