Dozens of Columbia customers remain without power

UPDATE: A few dozen customers were left without power in Columbia on Sunday afternoon.

As of 3 p.m., there were 10 outages affecting 59 customers, according to the Columbia Water and Light outage map.

ORIGINAL: More than a thousand Columbia homes had power restored Sunday morning but thousands more are without power.

According to the Columbia Water and Light outage map, 3,954 customers were without power as of 10:18 a.m. Sunday. Power was restored to 1,100 customers before 7 a.m. Sunday. The city said crews will work 16 hour shifts Sunday with help from Macon, Waynesville, Palmyra and Rolla utility crews.

“Due to the prolonged and nonstop snow, many City of Columbia Utilities customers may remain without power into Monday, Jan. 14 or Tuesday, Jan. 15, weather pending,” the city said in a release.

As of 10:18 a.m. Sunday, Boone Electric had 382 customers without power according to the outage map. Boone Electric crews worked around the clock Saturday into Sunday to restore power.

Ameren customers experienced outages Saturday, but crews were able to restore power for most customers by Sunday morning. On Sunday, Ameren said there were five customers in the Boonville area without power and crews would be back at 7 a.m. Sunday to continue working.

The wet, heavy snow that fell Saturday caused trees to sag on to power lines and some power lines to break across Columbia. Ameren, Boone Electric and Columbia Water and Light all said the weather is to blame for power outages.
