Heavy snow and hazardous conditions to continue through Saturday

TODAY: Steady snow continues to fall this morning and will be heavy at times, as the slow moving low pressure system tracks to the east. Many areas have already seen anywhere from 6-10″ of snow, with more expected through the day. The heaviest snow will stick around from the morning in the middle of the afternoon, before gradually tapering off into the evening. This will bring additional accumulation amounts in the 4-8″. The lower amount will be likely if we see a back and forth transition between a wintry mix/snow. High temperatures today remain near freezing, which will allow for slick roads to continue through the day.

TONIGHT: Light snow showers are possible into the evening hours, as the heaviest snow will have shifted to the east. Additional accumulation will likely amount to less than half an inch in many spots, with some freezing drizzle possible. This will fall on top of an already deep snow pack, so travel is extremely discouraged. Overnight lows drop into the upper 20s, with north winds up to 12 mph.

EXTENDED: Wind chills will dip to near 20 by Sunday morning with snow flurries turning to freezing drizzle before ending. Sunday will still be cold, reaching the mid 30s with mostly cloudy skies. We’ll slowly warm next week, reaching the mid 40s by Tuesday. Another cold front drops in Wednesday, cooling us back into the 30s to near 40 by next Thursday. At this time the moisture looks limited with this front but some very light rain or wintry mix can’t be completely ruled out late Wednesday. Another storm system for late next week will bring a chance of rain Friday with highs in the lower 40s.
