Heavy snow may have damaged mailboxes in Cole County

The Cole County Public Works Department encountered some issues while clearing heavy snow on Friday.

Cole County Public Works Director Larry Benz said some of their trucks needed to be worked on by mechanics, but it didn’t stop crews from clearing the roads.

City officials said it is possible some mailboxes were damaged as crews were doing their work.

“It’s not the trucks knocking them over it’s the snow coming off the end of the blade,” Benz said. “When it throws it to the side of the road, it’s got so much weight it will knock the mailbox off the post.”

Benz said anyone with a damaged mailbox can call and report it to the Cole County Public Works Department.
