Central Missouri schools begin to call early dismissals

Schools were beginning to call early dismissals of Friday classes a day ahead of an expected winter storm.

Columbia, Boonville and Centralia public schools, the High Road School of Boone County and the Wellsville-Middletown district in Montgomery County had all called for early Friday dismissals by Thursday evening. A full list of closings and early dismissals can be found here.

The National Weather Service on Thursday issued a winter storm warning for much of central Missouri from noon Friday through early Sunday. ABC 17 News Stormtrack meteorologists are expecting a rain/snow mix to possibly start falling as early as Friday afternoon before changing over to all snow into the evening Friday. The heaviest snow is expected overnight, with rates increasing into Saturday.

Public works crews in Columbia and Jefferson City said Thursday they were already making plans for street-clearing operations.
