Fourth person charged in Jefferson City robbery

A fourth person was arrested and charged on Wednesday in connection with a Jefferson City armed robbery that happened at the beginning of December.

Latrell D. Batts, 20, was allegedly in a car with Cortez Burton, 18, Andrew Dixson, 27, and Jamel Sutton, 20. The men were driving in the 1600 block of E. Elm Street on Dec. 2 when they saw a man walking on the sidewalk.

Sutton was driving the car and pulled the vehicle next to the victim, court documents said. The men then exited the car, hitting the victim with the door, and Batts allegedly robbed the victim at gunpoint.

Batts fled the scene and was not taken into custody until Wednesday. Witnesses told police they saw Batts with a pistol in his waistband and that they heard him planning a robbery. Batts denied any involvment with the robbery.

He was charged with first-degree robbery, unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action.
