Typical January weather, winter storm moves in Friday

TONIGHT: Some passing clouds lead to partly cloudy skies as temperatures fall into the upper teens by morning. It’ll feel more like the lower teens as you head out the doors Thursday morning, thanks to a light breeze out of the north up to 8 mph.

THURSDAY: We’ll stay in the upper 30s again for Thursday with a few clouds in the sky and light winds from the southeast up to 8 mph.

EXTENDED: A winter storm is developing for Friday and will send moisture into mid-Missouri during the day Friday as temperatures stay in the mid to upper 30s. At this time, it looks like it will start as a mix of rain, sleet and snow which will increase after 10 AM Friday and change to all snow by late afternoon and evening with snow continuing through Saturday morning. Snow will shift to the east-southeast during the day Saturday before ending. Temperatures will fall to near freezing by Friday evening and snow will begin to stick to untreated roads with accumulation overnight, causing slow travel. Forecast snow amounts of 2-7 inches are expected with localized higher amounts possible. Lowest totals will be west near HWY 65 to Kansas City with higher amounts to the east and southeast. Temperatures will be below freezing from Friday evening through Saturday morning so untreated roads will be slick. Temperatures stay in the mid 30s Sunday with mostly cloudy skies and possible snow flurries.
