Police checking on leads after teen shot in north Columbia

The Columbia Police Department was actively checking leads on Wednesday after evidence of two shootings were found on Tuesday. However, CPD spokesman Jeff Pitts said the department cannot confirm whether the two shootings were connected.

Officers found a 16-year-old with a non-life threatening gun shot wound Tuesday. The teenager was inside a vehicle in the Break Time convenience store parking lot on Smiley Lane .

Shortly before, police said they found evidence of a shooting on Bodie Drive and Edenton Boulevard.

Bodie Drive is about one mile away from the Break Time on Smiley Lane.

CPD responded to 247 calls on Bodie Drive in 2018 according to dispatch records.

ABC 17 News had crews on Bodie Drive on Dec. 27 for a report of shots heard. On Nov. 30, one person suffered a non-life threatening gun shot wound from a shooting on Bodie Drive and Edenton Boulevard.

Anyone with information about either incident is asked to contact the Columbia Police Department at 573-874-7652 or Crimestoppers at 573-875-TIPS to remain anonymous.
