Cold start to 2019, watching a late-week system
TONIGHT: Low clouds will persist with some drizzle or snow flurries possible. Temperatures will drop to the freezing mark close to midnight and through the night. Patchy freezing drizzle is possible mainly north of I-70 but is not expected to be enough to cause slick roads. This could turn to snow flurries before ending as temperatures fall to the mid to upper 20s by morning with northerly winds up to 12 mph.
TUESDAY: Colder weather will arrive in Mid-Missouri just in time for the new year, as highs will struggle to climb into the lower 30s. It’ll be a dreary Tuesday, as overcast skies will remain and breezy winds will make it feel more like the lower 20s through the day.
EXTENDED: A warming trend will slowly take hold as we head into the middle of this week, with temperatures topping out near 40 degrees as we head into Thursday. Another southern storm system will bring a chance of rain and snow to parts of Mid-Missouri late Thursday into early Friday. There is still uncertainty to how far north this system will track which will make a difference on how far north the precipitation reaches. Once that system passes, sunshine returns as we head into the weekend with highs topping out in the upper 40s to near 50.
