Police investigating robbery at Columbia convenience store

UPDATE 9:30 a.m.: Columbia police said a armed robbery suspect was able to get away with cash from a convenience store early Monday morning.

Police said they were called to Break Time, 2709 E. Broadway Street, for reports of an armed robbery just before 2 a.m.

The robber was described as a black man, 5 ft. 7in 6 ft. tall, under 30 years old and weighed about 150 pounds. We was wearing a dark color hoodie with a dark cloth covering his mouth.

A police K-9 unit was able to track that the suspect ran east from the business.

Police said there are no photos or videos of the suspect they can share at this time.

ORIGINAL: Multiple Columbia police units were investigating a robbery Broadway Break Time convenience store just before 2 a.m. Monday morning.

According to CPD officers on scene, the suspect entered the the gas station located near Brickton Road and Highway 63, dressed all in black and demanded money.

Witnesses told police the suspect had his face covered and while no weapon was shown, the suspect implied that he was carrying a gun.

Investigators said the whole exchange happened in a matter of seconds and the suspect got away with cash.

CPD is working to get security camera footage from the Break Time for the investigation.

Witnesses described the suspect as a shorter man weighing 150 to 180 pounds.
