Columbia city council holds budget work session Saturday

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Columbia City Council held a work session and presentation Saturday morning to review the proposed 2023 fiscal year budget.

The proposed budget includes.

• $472,960,862 in total revenue.
• $476,438,989 in total operating expenditures
• $48,368,728 in total capital improvement projects.

If passed, the city employees could receive a 4% pay increase. The money for the increase include $1,468,756 in general funds, and $1,880,007 in other funds. Performance pay increase of up to 1% could be given to 141 supervisors, and 525 non-supervisors. Under the proposed budget, 11 employees could move to midpoint and the move to midpoint will affect employees whose five year anniversary is before March of 2022.

The Wabash bus station has been used as an emergency overnight warming center, the proposed plan hopes to fund a social services contract amendment to replace the center. The plan also is looking to use social services funding for contracts that support basic needs services, and to secure 300 boxes of Narcan for distribution at community events.

Saturdays meeting was just a presentation of the budget, the Council is scheduled to meet again on Monday at 7 p.m.
