No white Christmas this year, but a few AM snowflakes are possible
TONIGHT: A weak upper level disturbance will bring light rain showers overnight, more likely for areas north of I-70. With temperatures dropping close to freezing through the night we could see a few snowflakes mixed in. There will be no accumulations or impacts expected, with overnight lows bottoming out near 35 degrees under clouds skies.
CHRISTMAS DAY: Light rain/snowflakes are possible for the first part of Christmas morning, with any precipitation tapering off by midmorning. No white Christmas is expected this year, but the tradeoff will be mild and cloudy conditions. Afternoon highs will top out near 50 degrees, with light winds out of the south up to 8 mph.
EXTENDED: Rain returns to Mid-Missouri by midweek as a strong cold front sweeps through the region. Initially rain will be light in nature by Wednesday night, with heavier rain arriving through the day Thursday. Some areas prone to flooding will need to be watched as Thursday approaches, as many areas could see upwards of 1.5 inches of rain. It’ll be breezy and warm ahead of the cold front, with temperatures topping out near 60 degrees by Thursday. Once the cold front clears the region, temperatures will take a nosedive. Highs to close out the last full week of 2018 will be in the mid to upper 30s, with overnight lows dipping to near 20 degrees.
