Four deadly crashes during holiday counting period
There have been four deadly crashes on Missouri roads since the Missouri State Highway Patrol started its holiday counting period 6 p.m. Friday.
The counting period ends on Christmas at 11:59 p.m.
A 17-year-old was killed in a crash Friday night in Jasper County. The crash report said the car went off the left side of Route U and overturned. The 16-year-old driver suffered minor injuries. The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.
Another deadly crash happened around 4:30 a.m. Saturday in Clinton County. A 57-year-old passenger died after a truck went of the road and crashed into a creek. Authorities said the driver suffered serious injuries and the passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.
Troopers also investigated a fatal crash in Franklin County around 11:30 a.m. Saturday. Authorities said a vehicle was traveling too fast for the roadway and crossed the center line, striking another vehicle. The 44-year-old driver of the first vehicle died of his injuries.
A 70-year-old man was killed in a crash Sunday morning in Dent County. Troopers said the man’s vehicle went off the road and struck a tree.
According to the crash reports, none of the people killed during the counting period were wearing a seat belt.
