Christmas brings above average temperatures with only a small shot at snowfall
CHRISTMAS EVE: We’ll start off fairly cool, but early morning sunshine and southerly breezes will aid in warming us through noon. Highs will rise into the low 50s south of I-70, but a bit cooler in our northern counties. By the afternoon, we’re tracking increasing cloud cover ahead of our next storm system set to arrive early Christmas morning.
TONIGHT: A weak upper level disturbance will bring light rain showers overnight, more likely for areas north of I-70. With temperatures dropping close to freezing through the night we could see a few snowflakes mixed in. There will be no accumulation on roadways, with a very light dusting possible only in grassy surfaces. Low temperatures drop into the mid 30s with mostly cloudy skies.
EXTENDED: Waking up on Christmas morning temperatures will be hovering near freezing with any light rainfall coming to an end. There should be no impacts to the roadways with the overnight rain event. Wind chills early in the day will be just below freezing with a slight breeze out of the southeast. Wear layers if you’re heading to early morning service, but the afternoon brings milder conditions with highs in the upper 40s. Clouds stick around through most of Christmas Day with a few peaks of sunshine possible. Rain chances increase Wednesday and Thursday with the possibility of a few thunderstorms. Temperatures will climb back into the upper 50s on Thursday thanks to breezy winds out of the south with a warm front lifting.
