Columbia police arrest man after drug bust at storage unit

Columbia police have arrested a man who they said had tens of thousands of dollars in cash as well as drugs.

Police said they pulled over Tommy Lee Thomas, 64, at the intersection of Business Loop and Garth Avenue on Saturday around noon. They saw that Thomas had drugs in the car so after some investigation, they obtained a search warrant for a storage unit at 1411 Hickory Street.

During the investigation of the unit and vehicle, officers found more than $40,000 in cash, 580 grams of cocaine, 100 grams of meth, more than 300 grams of marijuana and more than 1,500 grams of K2.

They also found a gun, which they said he was not legally allowed to have since he was a felon.

He was arrested on four charges of distribution of a controlled substance and one count of felon in possession of a firearm.

Thomas was arrested in Columbia in early November and charged with delivery of marijuana or synthetic marijuana.

The investigation is ongoing.
