Highway Patrol amps up enforcement for the holidayS

Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers are out on the road deterring holiday travelers from aggressive driving.

“We’re looking for things like texting, speeding, following too close,” said Trooper Matt Halford. “Things that lead to traffic crashes.”

In 2017 there were 1,618 crashes on Missouri highways resulting in seven deaths and 541 injuries. Highway Patrol hopes to keep that number down in 2018.

“We want to make sure that everyone gets home safely,” Halford said.

MSHP said the best way to stay safe on the road is for drivers to take their time on the roads and avoid distraction.

“We want to take this time to remind people to slow down, obey the posted traffic laws and put their cell phone down,” Halford said.
