Boone County Sheriff’s Department warns of telephone scam

The Boone County Sheriff’s Department is warning of another telephone scam that is targeting mid-Missouri residents.

Deputies said on Friday the department was informed that people reported a detective had called them threatening arrest for not showing up for jury duty.

The scammer claimed to be Detective Sullivan or Detective O’Sullivan, who is an actual member of the Sheriff’s Department.

One resident told deputies the scammer demanded a $1,700 payment to cancel an outstanding warrant.

The Sheriff’s Department reminds citizens it will never call people requesting credit or debit card information over the phone.

Anyone who receives a similar phone call is advised to hang up and to contact local law enforcement at 3-1-1.
