Organic dairy plant in Boone County prepares for milk production
An organic dairy plant northeast of Columbia is closing in on operational status.
Aurora Organic Dairy told ABC 17 News on Tuesday that workers are in the process of testing and running product through the facility’s equipment.
According to plant manager Doug Geshell, employees at the facility on Route B and Waco Road have processed several shipments of raw milk this week. The product will get shipped to a storage facility in Colorado for distribution.
Aurora Organic Dairy is still working to bring the plant’s cold storage warehouse online.
The company doesn’t expect to ship milk to customers from Columbia until February.
ABC 17 News is told around 65 workers have been hired at the plant. Geshell said the facility will employ about 85 people once the plant officially opens for business.
Aurora Organic Dairy agreed to create around 100 new jobs in exchange for tax breaks from Boone County.
