Columbia man sentenced to 105 years for murder
A Columbia man convicted of murder and weapons charges was sentenced Monday to 105 years in prison.
A jury convicted Denico Crawley of four counts on Oct. 31 — second-degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon and two counts of armed criminal action — in the 2017 fatal shooting of Quentin Hurt near Interstate 70 and Highway 63. Prosecutors said the shooting was the result of a dispute over a woman.
Hurt’s mother gave emotional testimony at Crawley’s sentencing.
Hurt died three weeks after the shooting from a pulmonary embolism. Prosecution witnesses testified that the blood clot resulted from the two gunshot wounds Hurt suffered in the shooting, in which a woman was also injured.
Crawley’s defense lawyer, public defender Derek Roe, filed a motion seeking a new trial last month.
