HOLLY POND, Alabama (WVTM) — The Holly Pond community is mourning the loss of two brothers after both were killed in a car wreck early Monday morning.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said the wreck occurred around 1:21 a.m. Monday on Cullman County 1669, approximately one mile west of Holly Pond. ALEA said 19-year-old Caden Rodgers was killed when the 2001 Saturn SL he was driving left the roadway and struck a utility pole. His 14-year-old brother Colby also died in the crash.
In a Facebook post, Holly Pond High School said Colby was an upcoming ninth-grader at the school.
“It is with deep regret that we inform you that one of our upcoming ninth-grade students was killed in a wreck early this morning,” the post read. “His older sibling was also killed, leaving unbearable sorrow and grief on their family and all of those who loved them. This loss is sure to raise many emotions, concerns, and questions for our entire school, especially our students.”
HPHS said the Cullman County School District has a Crisis Intervention Team available to help with the needs of students, parents and school personnel during difficult times.
Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 6, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Holly Pond Funeral Home with the funerals to immediately follow. Graveside services will take place at Holly Pond Cemetery.
A GoFundMe is set up to help the family with expenses.
