Callaway County man leads deputies on vehicle chase, then foot pursuit
The Callaway County Sheriff’s Office said deputies arrested a wanted felon who led them on a vehicle chase, then a foot pursuit Friday morning.
Deputies said they spotted Wendell Steward Jr., 21, of Fulton, driving on Business 54 near Glover Street in Fulton shortly before 11 a.m. They knew that he was wanted for violating probation.
Deputies attempted to stop Steward, but he instead started a chase, with speeds reaching up to 115 mph.
Steward drove through several streets and eventually traveled onto U.S. Highway 54 eastbound toward Kingdom City, according to deputies.
Steward turned around near the north end of Fulton and traveled onto Highway 54 westbound, before heading back into Fulton on Business 54.
Deputies said Steward stopped on Meadowlark Lane and ran from the vehicle, starting a foot chase.
Deputies followed Steward into the nearby woods and were able to take him into custody with the help of the Fulton Police Department and Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Steward was taken to the Callaway County jail on charges of felony d elivery of a controlled substance, felony resisting arrest, careless and imprudent driving and speeding for driving 115 mph in a 70 mph zone.
Steward was also taken into custody for violating probation. He was convicted in connection with a home invasion and armed robbery in 2016. He is being held pending a court hearing to set his bond.
