Providence Road reopened after gas leak

All lanes of Providence Road at Vandiver Drive have reopened after being closed for a gas leak.

A natural gas leak caused the road to be closed a little before 11:30 a.m., according to an alert from Boone County dispatchers. A second alert at about 12:40 p.m. said the road had been reopened.

Information from dispatching notes showed an excavator hit a gas line, Columbia Fire Department Assistant Chief Brad Fraizer said.

Firefighters at the scene said Ameren Missouri workers were able to crimp the damaged gas line and maintain service to the rest of the area.
