ORIGINAL: Morgan County deputies arrested a man Tuesday morning after a chase that spanned three counties.

The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office received a call at about 10:25 a.m. of a vehicle stolen at gunpoint south of Eldon, the office said in a news release. Deputies found the vehicle about 20 minutes later on Highway 52 and tried to stop it, but the driver did not stop, the release said.

The vehicle avoided stop sticks placed in the road by authorities several times before finally hitting them on Highway 50 outside Tipton. The driver lost control of the vehicle trying to avoid other stop sticks near Sedalia, the sheriff’s office said.

The chase went through Morgan, Moniteau and Pettis counties and caused lockdowns at public schools in Stover and Versailles. Authorities arrested the driver and found a Smith and Wesson pistol and about 3 pounds of marijuana, the sheriff’s office said.

The sheriff’s office is not identifying the driver pending filing of charges.
