Jefferson City Public Schools gives update on high school projects
Jefferson City Public Schools approved the maximum guaranteed prices on two large projects at its board meeting Monday night.
The school district is moving forward with construction of a new high school and massive renovations on the old high school building.
Jefferson City Public School voters overwhelmingly approved a $130 million bond issue in 2017. It was decided, the bond issue would be used to build a new high school in the Jefferson City Public School District and overhaul the existing high school building.
According to the school district, they plan on having renovations completed for the old high school by early 2020 and having students in the new building by late 2019.
According to a press release from the district, Nabholz Construction has been selected as the construction manager. Nabholz Construction is based out of Conway, Arkansas with a branch located in Springfield, Missouri. Reportedly, more than 50 Mid-Missouri contractors and sub-contractors have already been involved with the design and construction process of both buildings.
The new high school is scheduled to have students for the fall of 2019. Capitol City High School will have ninth and tenth graders moving into the building for the 2019-2020 school year.
The first phase of renovations at Jefferson City High School have already started. Several classrooms and the Nicholas Career Center have been revamped. The next areas to be fixed up are the gymnasium, building connector and storm shelter.
