Sunny & Cold this afternoon, Slightly warmer Wednesday
THIS AFTERNOON: Don’t let the sun fool you. It’s cold out there with much of Mid-Missouri still in the low to mid 20s just before noon. Impressive cold air over top the area. We’ll see temperatures flirt with the freezing mark by 2 or 3 but that doesn’t last long. Once we see the sun set this evening, another round of bitterly cold temperatures will set in. With light winds and clear skies, this will set the stage for prime cooling conditions overnight. Many of us drop between 12-15 degrees. You’ll want that jacket out the door for any dinner plans.
TONIGHT: Another night of bitterly cold temperatures is expected, with lows bottoming out near 15 degrees. With clear skies, we could even see some spots dip into the lower teens tonight. It could potentially be one of the coldest nights we’ve seen this season. Thankfully with fairly calm winds, wind chills will only be a degree or two colder into the night.
EXTENDED: As high pressure slowly shifts off to the east we’ll see a gradual warming trend. Wednesday, temperatures will rebound back into the upper 30s, with any remaining snow melting through the day. While most of this week is dry, we are watching a wave of moisture that could bring a wintry mix to southeastern parts of Mid-Missouri as we head into Thursday morning. Any accumulation will likely be limited to the I-44 corridor, with the rest of Mid-Missouri just seeing chilly conditions. Friday looks to be the nicest day of the week, as we squeeze out some 50s across the region, before another shot of cold air knocks us back into the 30s by Sunday.
