Despite sunny skies, bitterly cold weather sticks around

TODAY: It’s a bitterly and cloudy start to the morning, with temperatures hovering in the teens and 20s. While clouds will stick around for the first part of the day, expect sunshine into the afternoon hours. Despite this, it will still be bitterly cold as we struggle to climb above freezing for the first time this season. Highs will top out near 30 degrees, with winds up to 15 mph out of the north making it feel more like the low to mid 20s today.

TONIGHT: Another night of bitterly cold temperatures is expected, with lows bottoming out near 15 degrees. With clear skies, we could even see some spots dip into the lower teens tonight. It could potentially be one of the coldest nights we’ve seen this season. Thankfully with fairly calm winds, wind chills will only be a degree or two colder into the night.

EXTENDED: As high pressure slowly shifts off to the east we’ll see a gradual warming trend. Wednesday, temperatures will rebound back into the upper 30s, with any remaining snow melting through the day. While most of this week is dry, we are watching a wave of moisture that could bring a wintry mix to southeastern parts of Mid-Missouri as we head into Thursday morning. Any accumulation will likely be limited to the I-44 corridor, with the rest of Mid-Missouri just seeing chilly conditions. Friday looks to be the nicest day of the week, as we squeeze out some 50s across the region, before another shot of cold air knocks us back into the 30s by Sunday.
