Arguments set in Reisch Twitter lawsuit

Arguments have been set in the lawsuit filed by a local attorney against a state representative who blocked him on Twitter.

Lawyers for state Rep. Cheri Reisch, R-Hallsville, and Mike Campbell are set to present their arguments over a motion to dismiss the case Friday in federal court in Jefferson City. Campbell in the lawsuit alleges Reisch blocked him after he retweeted a post by state Rep. Kip Kendrick, D-Columbia, criticizing Reisch.

Reisch, who won re-election in a contested race this month, has called the lawsuit “frivolous.” Campbell alleges Reisch violated the First and Fourteenth amendments in blocking him.

Reisch said in a news release that the judge on the case, Brian C. Wimes, has indicated a trial will take place March 29 if the case is not dismissed. Wimes will rule on Reisch’s motion to dismiss the case by the end of the year, Reisch said.
