Snow continues through early afternoon, winds and bitter cold take us into Tuesday morning

***WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR BENTON, BOONE, CALLAWAY, CAMDEN, COLE, COOPER, GASCONADE, HOWARD, MARIES, MILLER, MONITEAU, MONTGOMERY, MORGAN, OSAGE, PETTIS, PHELPS, PULASKI, AND SALINE COUNTIES UNTIL 9 PM.***

THIS AFTERNOON: Continuing to track snow push east across Mid-Missouri this afternoon. Most placest west of HWY 65 are beginning to see the snow taper down. We’re even seeing some reports that state routes are beginning to run into some trouble as well; Travel is NOT advised. We’ll have to track a secondary band near Kansas City stretching through southeastern Kansas. This could bring one last quick hit of snow before it all shuts off after 5/6pm. Much colder air, along with blustery winds build in this evening. You’ll want the heavy jacket, scarf and all the winter-time fixings to get you out the door. Wind chills will be in the lower teens and upper single digits by 8pm.

TONIGHT: Clouds will decrease through the night, with a bitterly cold night expected. Under clear skies and any snow pack we see, temperatures will quickly fall to near 15 degrees. With winds out of the north up to 12 mph, we’ll easily see wind chills in the single digits for Tuesday morning. You’ll want to make sure you bundle up if you are going to be outside.

EXTENDED: As high pressure slowly shifts off to the east we’ll see a gradual warming trend. It will be another cold Tuesday and Tuesday night though, with temperatures once more falling into the teens. However, by Wednesday temperatures will rebound back into the upper 30s and lower 40s. While most of this week is dry, we are watching a wave of moisture that could bring some cold rain to southeastern parts of Mid-Missouri as we head into Thursday. For now it’s a very minor chance of seeing anything, but it is being watched. Friday looks to be the nicest day of the week, as we could squeeze out some 50s across the region, before another shot of cold air knocks us back into the 30s by Sunday.
