Jefferson City shelters filling up as temperatures drop
The Salvation Army Center of Hope in Jefferson City saw more visitors Friday due to bitterly cold temperatures.
Lt. Christopher White with the Salvation Army of Jefferson City said the shelter was housing two or three people on average last week.
The last two nights, the center hosted nine people and had several people drop in briefly to warm up.
White said no one is turned away and that the shelter is prepared with food, bathrooms and showers.
“We try and be a beacon in the city on those cold nights,” White said. “We want to make sure that everyone is welcome to come in.”
The Salvation Army Center of Hope is a 31-bed shelter for homeless men, women and families with children. It is located at 927 Jefferson Street.
