Trudy Busch Valentine says her past experiences prepared her for U.S. Senate

Trudy Busch Valentine, a nurse and heiress to the Busch beer fortune is in the race for U.S. Senate and she said her past experiences have prepared her for the role.
"Our country needs to heal we need to stop fighting each other and work together," Valentine said.
Valentine is running against Lucas Kunce, a former marine, and nine others for the Democratic nomination to replace retiring U.S. Senator Roy Blount.
Valentine worked for many years as a nurse, supporting families facing difficult circumstances. Her husband John Valentine died of cancer at 49 years old, and in 2020 her oldest son died after battling an opioid addiction.
"I believe that public office is another form of service and I can serve in a bigger way as a United States Senator and I can serve more people," Valentine said. "Expanding the Affordable Care Act, doing more with Medicaid, mental health care is a big problem around Missouri and I think the opioid addiction is ravaging Missouri.
Valentine apologized for attending a ball in St. Louis that only allowed whites when she was younger. It’s a topic that Kunce has attacked her over.
"I had no idea of the ramifications of what I was doing, I was very young and I've apologized, I'll always be a champion for equality. Anyone who knows me knows I am for equal rights," Valentine said.
