Man arrested after standoff suspected in thefts

UPDATE 10:30 a.m.: Columbia police have identified the man arrested after a standoff on Demaret Drive early Thursday.

Dalton Dostaglou, 27, was arrested on a warrant for violating the conditions of his parole on original charges of child endangerment, domestic assault and drug charges, the Columbia Police Department said in a news release. Dostaglou is also a suspect in recent thefts, including stealing guns from a local business, police said.

The incident started when police were investigating another theft from a business Thursday at about 3 p.m. when officers tried to arrest Dostaglou at the Super 8 motel in the 5700 block of Freedom Drive, according to CPD. He got away out a second-floor window and officers tracked him to the 700 block of Demaret, police said.

Dostaglou, who barricaded himself inside a home with a handgun, was arrested after the SWAT team burst into the house and Dostaglou surrendered, according to the release. He was taken to a hospital because he was under the influence of a drug, police said.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Department and Missouri State Highway Patrol helped in the search and arrest.
