Tracking snow chances and record lows through the rest of the week
WEDNESDAY: A few high level clouds will continue to stream into the region this afternoon, with a cold day on tap for all of Mid-Missouri. Afternoon highs will top out in the upper 40s, with wind chill values making it feel even colder through the day. Winds through the day will remain out of the northwest up to 10 mph.
TONIGHT: Clouds will build overnight as temperatures drop into the low 30s. We’ll see a light freeze by Thursday morning, as winds will be fairly light out of the west up to 5 mph. Even though the winds are light, you can expect wind chills to dip into the 20s for the AM commute Thursday.
EXTENDED: Clouds move back in Thursday, leading to a chance of light rain by late afternoon. The dry air in place will eat away at the moisture as it moves in Thursday but by evening rain is possible along with some snow mixing in. After 9 pm, there could be a period of steady rain or possibly light snow, which looks more likely north of Hwy 50 overnight. Temperatures will fall Thursday night to freezing from north to south but not until after midnight. As the ground cools, it’s possible we could see minor snow accumulation mainly in grassy surfaces with up to a half inch possible north of Hwy 50. By Friday morning, the snow ends but there could be some slushy light amounts of snow on less traveled roads which we’ll have to monitor. What’s certain is that much colder air tracks in Thursday and into the weekend. Thursday night we’ll drop into the upper 20s, only reaching the low 40s Friday with some sunshine. Another fast moving wave of low pressure will bring a chance of flurries or brief light snow Friday afternoon with the best chance east of HWY 63. No accumulation is expected from this. A hard freeze is expected Friday night as we dip into the teens by Saturday morning. Right now the weekend looks dry but chilly as we remain in the lower 40s for highs and upper 20s to lower 30s for lows.
