Columbia police investigate shooting after one man injured

Columbia police said they are investigating a shooting in north Columbia that left one man with a gunshot wound Tuesday morning.

Police were called to High Quest Circle and Derby Ridge Drive just before 3 a.m.

When they got to the scene they found that a victim had been shot with his own gun, but by another unknown person.

The victim told police that he picked up two people in his car. He said he thought he might have known one of them.

At some point, a fight started inside the victim’s car, and later continued outside of the car on High Quest Circle.

The victim and suspects were struggling over the victim’s gun, and that’s when the victim was shot.

The suspects left the scene.

Police called for assistance from the Boone County Sheriff’s Department’s K-9 unit to help locate exactly where the victim was shot and where the suspects went.

Police said the victim suffered a superficial gunshot wound, and despite their advice, refused medical treatment.
