Jefferson City firefighters respond to overnight fire at commuter parking lot

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Firefighters are investigating the cause of an overnight fire at a Jefferson City commuter parking lot.

The Jefferson City Fire Department responded to the 900 block of 4th Street around 2:10 a.m. Firefighters said crews found smoke and fire coming from a pavilion in the parking lot.

The pavilion suffered heavy fire and smoke damage, but there were no reports of injuries, according to the fire department.

Firefighters said the cause of the fire is under investigation but believe the fire started in a trash can in the front of the building near the bathroom entrances.

The Jefferson City Police Department and Callaway County EMS helped firefighters respond to the fire.
