Judge sentences Columbia man in deadly 2017 shooting

A judge sentenced a Columbia man last week for his role in a deadly 2017 shooting.
Darold Pruitt pleaded guilty to felony counts of voluntary manslaughter, unlawful use of a weapon, second-degree assault, and armed criminal action at a court hearing on Monday. The judge sentenced Pruitt to 12 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections for voluntary manslaughter and armed criminal action.
Pruitt was also given prison sentences of 7 years for second-degree assault and 4 years for armed criminal action. During the hearing, the judge gave Pruitt credit for the time he already served.
Police officers responded to the shooting on Madison Street in central Columbia around 10 p.m. on March, 21, 2017. Investigators said Shamya Brimmage was killed and another woman was hurt in the shooting.
Officers arrested Pruitt and Devontre Kennedy after informants identified the men as suspects in the shooting. The Boone County Prosecutor's Office previously charged both men with second-degree murder in Brimmage's death.
A judge sentenced Kennedy to 20 years in prison for his role in the deadly shooting in 2019.
