Former courthouse worker faces more charges
A Jefferson city man who used to supervise workers at the federal courthouse was indicted Thursday for allegedly selling firearms to a felon, according to a release sent from the Office of the United States Attorney Western District.
Victor Nahum Vargas, 40, allegedly sold five firearms to a person he knew to be a convicted felon on April 18, 2018 for $7,500, and he allegedly sold 11 firearms to a person he knew to be a convicted felon on May 11, 2018 for $8,100.
“Vargas made a false written statement in which he claimed that he was the actual buyer of the firearms,” the release said. “In reality, the indictment alleges, Vargas was acquiring those 10 firearms on behalf of another person.”
Vargas had already been charged in a previous indictment on June 6 for knowingly selling guns to a felon and making false statements to acquire firearms, the release said.
Vargas was employed as the custodial supervisor at the Christopher S. Bond Courthouse in Jefferson City and has been in federal custody since his arrest on May 11, 2018. Vargas remains detained without bond.
