ABC 17 News, Red Cross raise over $5K for hurricane relief

ABC 17 News and Fox 22 helped the American Red Cross raise more than $5,000 to help the Southeast recover from hurricanes.

The stations partnered with the charity during a 12-hour telethon Tuesday. The money will go to help in the recovery from hurricanes Michael and Florence.

More than 2,000 people displaced by Hurricane Michael stayed in Red Cross shelters in Florida, Georgia and Alabama on Saturday night, the organization said. More than 1,000 Red Cross workers are in those three states helping with recovery efforts.

In excess of 450,000 utility customers in those states remained without power Sunday.
