Columbia rape suspect pleads guilty

A Columbia man who was arrested in August 2017 after an hours-long standoff with police pleaded guilty Monday to rape and was sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Christopher L. Moore was accused of forcing his way into a Columbia home and assaulting a woman, which led to the standoff. The victim in the case said Moore broke into her home and assaulted her at gunpoint while threatening to kill her and her children.

Police caught up to him at a different house on West Cunningham Drive.

Prosecutors dropped several counts, including sodomy and armed criminal action, in exchange for the guilty plea. Moore has been in custody since his arrest and will receive credit for time served.

Moore also pleaded guilty to failure to register as a sex offender and was sentenced to seven years in prison. That sentence will run concurrently with his rape sentence.
