Rain showers possible Sunday, Remaining cool… Late week warming trend

TONIGHT: Rainfall from a system to our south is expected to slowly expand northward this evening, bringing a chance at showers as far north as I-70 after midnight. However, the greatest risk for rainfall will be along the I-44 corridor. Lows are expected to be in the mid 40s.

SUNDAY: It’s a cool start to the morning, and the potential exists for a few leftover showers as well. Keep track of that umbrella, through the early morning hours- the trend of precip along and south of I-70 applies here as well. We’ll see a bit of a drying trend after 9am, though, and that lasts for much of the afternoon. We can’t rule out spotty drizzle throughout the day, but an increased rain risk arrives after 6pm. This is along a cold front tracking through Mid-Missouri which will bring us a much more widespread chance at some rainfall. This lasts into the early morning hours on Monday… with which could even see a few snowflakes mix in for our far northern counties… no impacts expected.

EXTENDED: Behind that cold front, we’ll see high pressure settle in across the region, which keeps our temperatures down Monday, in the mid to upper 40s. With light winds and dropping temperature Monday night into Tuesday, we’re likely going to see widespread frost, and even a freeze potential developing. The better chance to see sub-freezing temps will be north of HWY 24, but low-lying valleys near I-70 are at risk as well. Those with sensitive plants will want to get them inside early this week. We’re also tracking a warming trend by the middle of the week. With a warm front lifting through Mid-MO Wednesday, we’ll start to see our temperatures climb to near seasonal averages, even above by Thursday and Friday, with abundant sunshine!
