Man killed in Demaret Drive shooting

UPDATE: Boone County deputies say 23-year-old Louis L. Green was shot and killed on Demaret Drive Wednesday afternoon. Deputies were called to the scene just after 3 p.m. They say they found Green lying in the foyer of a four-unit apartment. He was pronounced dead at a Columbia hospital about an hour later.

A detective with the Boone County Sheriff’s Department also confirmed to ABC 17 News that Green was sentenced to four years in prison after four people were shot at the VFW in 2015. ABC 17 News has reached out the Department of Corrections and asked for details on his release.

A reward is being offered for any information that leads to an arrest in connection with Green’s death.

Original story:

Boone County deputies were sent Wednesday afternoon to the 700 block of Demaret Drive after a man was shot in the back.

It wasn’t immediately clear how seriously the 23-year-old man was injured. The victim was taken to a hospital and an ABC 17 News reporter saw an ambulance leaving the area. The call came in at about 3 p.m.

Several homes are blocked off with crime scene tape.

Boone County Sheriff’s Department Det. Tom O’Sullivan said the investigation was in its early stages and details were scarce. The man was shot in front of a building on Demaret and investigators were talking to witnesses, he said.

“Sometimes we get good cooperation, sometimes we don’t,” O’Sullivan said. He encouraged anyone with information to contact authorities.

EDITOR’S NOTE: The spelling of the shooting victim’s name has been corrected.
