U.S. Department of Homeland Security grants Missouri Real ID extension

Missourians will be able to continue using their current driver’s licenses to board flights after an extension was granted for the state to comply with the Real ID Act.

According to a news release from the Missouri Department of Revenue, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security granted an extension through Aug. 1, 2019.

During the extension, federal agencies will accept Missouri-issued driver licenses and identification cards for official purposes.

“The Department of Revenue has been working nonstop to meet the requirements of the Real ID Act, and we remain on track to achieve full implementation by March 2019,” Joel Walters, director of the Missouri Department of Revenue, said.

March 2019 was the original time frame state officials planned on becoming fully compliant, but the DHS would only grant shorter extensions.
