90 degrees in October

TUESDAY: Expect a warm, dry day with high temperatures reaching the mid 80s under partly sunny skies. Southwest winds will increase up to 12 mph in the afternoon.

TONIGHT: Temperatures won’t drop far tonight as lows only touch 70 by the morning. It will stay dry under partly cloudy skies, but you’ll feel the humidity in the air through morning. This is in part thanks to winds staying out of the south up to 8 mph.

EXTENDED: Temperatures will remain above averages through the first half of the work week, with Wednesday being the warmest day with highs in the upper 80s to near 90. The humidity will make it feel like the lower 90s in the afternoon. After this return to summer like weather, the second half of the week and into the weekend will bring the return of an unsettled weather pattern. A series of fronts will trail through the area into the weekend that will bring us rain chances and cooler temperatures. This is as the country will find itself split in half by seasons, with autumn dominating out west and stifling heat and humidity holding strong along the east coast. By Thursday the initial cold front will push through the area sparking showers & t-storms as early as Wednesday night and continuing all the way through Thursday afternoon. Temperatures will take a slight hit by Thursday with highs remaining in the mid 70s. Friday, the front lifts to the north as a warm front brining temperatures back into the upper 80s, with drier conditions through the afternoon. The possibility for showers & storms continue through the weekend as the frontal system may stall out overhead. This early out it’s hard to pin down exact rainfall totals, but by this time next week we can expect heavy rainfall accumulation across the middle of the country. Areas north of I-70 may see 2-3″ by Monday, with areas south coming in closer to 1-2″. Make sure you keep up to date with the latest forecast on-air and online with ABC 17 News.
