High-speed Cole County chase ends in arrest

The Cole County Sheriff’s Office says a man is in custody after a high-speed chase early Monday.

The chase started at about 7:23 a.m. in the 100 block of Route D when a deputy tried to pull over a vehicle driven by a suspect in a domestic dispute, the sheriff’s office said in a news release. The chase continued on highwayd 50 and 179, where a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper was able to use spikes to deflate the vehicle’s right front tire, the sheriff’s office said.

The vehicle struck a car but no one was hurt. The chase continued along Country Club and Business 50 West before the suspect got back on Route T and drove through yards, then crashed in the 200 block of Verdant Lane, according to the release. The man ran but was captured by deputies. The chase lasted nine minutes and topped 90 mph, the sheriff’s office said. No one was injured.

The man deputies sought had been in a domestic disturbance Saturday night as well, but authorities were unable to find him, the office said. The release said the man had “been continuing to harass the victim” and had an ex parte order against him.

The man was taken to the Cole County Jail and booked on suspicion of fourth-degree domestic assault, driving with a revoked license, resisting arrest, leaving the scene of an accident and other charges.

Deputies also served him with a protection order and an order for a 96-hour mental health commitment. Authorities did not release his name.
