Tracking a hot start to the weekend, Sunday rain

TONIGHT: Mostly clear with lows in the low 70s.

TOMORROW: Mostly sunny with increasing clouds. Highs in the mid-90s with storms developing by early evening.

EXTENDED: Most of tonight stays dry and clear with the next complex of storms just clipping us to the east overnight. We're off to a hot start to the weekend with sunshine and highs in the mid-90s on Saturday, but scattered storms are expected to develop by early evening. A push of more widespread rain and storms ahead of a cold front will move into Mid-Missouri overnight into Sunday, bringing much needed rain to drought stricken areas. Showers and storms continue through much of Sunday, pushing southeast by evening. Rain amounts will end up around an inch, possibly more in some spots where thunderstorms are a bit stronger. The overall severe threat is low, but if we do see any embedded strong storms it would likely be overnight on Saturday. Ongoing rain will keep temperatures in the 80s during the day on Sunday ahead of another intense week of heat. Monday will act as a buffer behind the cold front with highs in the lower 90s, but watch out for Tuesday. Temperatures top out near 100 and the heat index will get between 103-105. The rest of the week is dry through Friday with high temperatures ranging from 96-100.
