Boonville police make two arrests in late night robbery

Two men are facing robbery charges after Boonville police say one suspect showed a handgun, demanded money and ran away from the Dollar General Store on Friday night.

At around 9:14 p.m., Boonville police responded to a report of an armed robbery at the Dollar General Store on 501 W. Ashley Road.

Officers on scene were told by witnesses that one black male entered the store, showed a handgun, demanded money and then left the store with an undetermined amount of money.

A Cooper County deputy noticed a suspicious vehicle traveling south on Ashley Road. When he caught up to the vehicle, deputies later arrested 43-year-old Desimond L. Fields of South Carolina and 35-year-old Dwayne T. Rivers of North Carolina.

Authorities say evidence connected the suspects to the robbery at the Dollar General Store.

Police say no one was injured during the robbery.

Neither of the men have been officially charged.
