100 more electric scooters dropped in Columbia for festival weekend

An additional batch of Bird Scooters were scattered around Columbia ahead of the weekend-long Roots and Blues Festival, according to Parks and Recreation Director Mike Griggs.

Griggs said the company behind the rentable electric scooters recently added 100 new devices, raising the total number to 450 in Columbia.

Festivalgoers are asked not to ride the scooters up to the entrance of the festival. Instead, the scooters should be left just outside the park in parking lots, according to Griggs.

Griggs said those who violate the rule could receive a citation.

Riders who take scooters to the festival should plan on getting home without the devices, as Bird scooters shut off after 9 p.m.
