Morgan County R-II warns of suspected case of meningitis

The Morgan County R-II School District superintendent sent a letter to parents Thursday warning of a suspected case of meningitis at the middle school.

According to the letter, which can be found on the district’s website, the school is working with the Morgan County Health Department to take precautions as necessary.

The district said it is particularly concerned if students are on the middle school football team, are religiously exempt from inoculations or have recently been diagnosed with strep and still have symptoms after taking antibiotics.

Dr. Joyce Ryerson said parents who suspect their child has been exposed or whose child is suffering from symptoms, which often include fever and headache, should take the child to see a doctor and let the doctor know of the potential for exposure.

“We take the health and safety of our children very seriously and appreciate your cooperation as we take precautions to avoid exposure to this illness,” Ryerson said.
