UPDATE: Man accused of DWI in fatal crash

One person died, and three people were hurt after a crash that closed Highway 50 in Moniteau County on Tuesday afternoon.

Steven Smart, 60, of Tebbets, Missouri, was pronounced dead at the scene. Three vehicles were involved in the crash, Missouri State Highway Patrol Sgt. Scott White said.

According to the crash report, one vehicle was passing another when it rear ended the car. It caused that vehicle to cross the roadway and hit a third vehicle nearly head on. The vehicle that was rear ended overcorrected and hit the third vehicle as well.

Jose Perez, who was arrested at the scene for driving while intoxicated and driving without a license, was seriously hurt. Abigail Heiiland and Joshua Kirchner suffered moderate injuries in the crash.

The Missouri Department of Transportation said the crash closed Highway 50 in both directions between Highway 87 and Business 50.

Traffic was being detoured through California via Business 50/David Road and Highway 87.
